I am currently a clinical informatics fellow at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. I have a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology where I performed undergraduate research in the department of Neuroengineering. After college I worked at Philips Medical systems as an intern in the computed tomography division where I programmed new prototype software for Neuroradiologists. I then went to medical school at the University of Southern California. Afterwards, I went into pathology and trained at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA for both my residency and molecular fellowship. During my molecular pathology training, I developed a strong interest in next generation sequencing data and bioinformatic pipelines. I was able to leverage my prior programming experiences towards the manufacturing of a standalone bioinformatic pipeline for a next generation sequencing panel. I created my own github page which house many of the scripts I wrote during training (https://github.com/schneiderthomas/). Then for 2 years I worked at a genetics laboratory in Atlanta.

During my molecular training I became interested in clinical informatics and its potential to effectively guide and support genomics-driven personalized health care. However, I realized my job at the genetic laboratory wouldn’t help me pursue these interests and therefore I applied for a clinical informatic fellowship and since this July I have been working at Mount Sinai Hospital in NY as a clinical informatics fellow
