Dr. Zachary Gordon is a native of Indiana, born and raised in Indianapolis, and graduated from North Central High School as valedictorian of his class. He then moved to Providence, Rhode Island where he earned both his Bachelor of Science degree and MD from Brown University through their combined eight-year Program in Liberal Medical Education. Dr. Gordon completed his urology residency at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, during which time he developed a passion for quality improvement, patient safety, infection prevention, and health informatics. He completed additional training in electronic health record systems, becoming an Epic-certified Advanced Physician Builder, and also served as Chair of the Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection Reduction Task Force, the Resident Quality and Patient Safety Forum, and a Sentinel Event Alert Workgroup evaluating the safe use of health information technology. In addition, he has also been trained in healthcare epidemiology and infection prevention and control by the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America and the Centers for Disease Control, and has co-authored two Clinical Practice Guidelines - Prevention of Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection and Prevention of Surgical Site Infections with Antimicrobial Prophylaxis. As a result of his dedication and commitment to promote safe, high-quality, and evidence-based care, Dr. Gordon has become nationally recognized as a future leader in healthcare and urology. In 2015 he was selected into the American Board of Medical Specialties Visiting Scholars Program, in which he received additional experience in physician performance measurement, regulatory policy, leadership development, and quality improvement research. In 2016 Dr. Gordon was honored again by being named the American Urological Association’s inaugural Science and Quality Scholar, an intensive training program designed to advance the fields of guidelines, quality and data. Dr. Gordon is currently pursuing additional training in biomedical and health informatics in a two-year Clinical Informatics Fellowship program at the Regenstrief Institute, an internationally respected informatics and health care research organization in Indianapolis, Indiana.
