Problem Statement
Scope of Problem Patients are transported from Inpatient areas to the operating room for surgery. Delay in this process is common. Prevalence: 20 percent of transports are associated with delay. 50% of theses delays are associated with patient location. Impact: Significant. About 100 cases / month are associated with delays secondary to location of the patient. Mean delay was 30 minutes. At $3000/ hour this would account for lost revenue of about $150,000.
Setting
Operating Room
Aims Real time tracking of the patient will reduce delays, improve efficiency and reduce lost revenues.
Specific Goal 95% improvement in patient tracking between Inpatient areas and operating room would significantly improve efficiency and improve productivity.
Process and Prioritization
Process Affected Patients from In-patient area come to the operating room for surgical procedure. About 50% of the patients are delayed from getting into to the operating room due problems with patient location. If we have a solution in the structure of a patient tracking system would improve/solve this problem. The implementation of Active RFID (radio frequency Identification Tag) would track patients in real time and help improve this problem.
Measure(s) 95% improvement in patient tracking between Inpatient areas and operating room would significantly improve efficiency and improve productivity.
