E-Sushrut
E-Shushrut is India's first large scale initiative towards an electronic medical record and is developed by the Center for Advance Computing (CDAC), Govt. of India. The project was released in 2002, but due to poor publicity much of it has not come to light.
Introduction
Hospital Information Systems (HIS) has been implemented in India since the 1990's. But these systems essentially maintained registration data only. With advent of Medical Informatics in India and explosive growth in Health Industry, the government of India had decided to replace the old HIS with this new system - e-susrut
E-Sushrut is a Hospital Management Information System based on ERP solution. This system provides an accurate electronic medical record (EMR) of patients and in real time streamlines patient care in an efficient manner. In spite of a huge potential to improve health care quality, this project did not take off. However, in the recent years there has growing effort to use information technology to improve quality of care in a rapidly growing health care sector.
