NextGen Health Information Systems is a wholly owned subsidiary of Quality Systems, Inc, one of the leading developers and providers of computer-based practice management and electronic health records systems for medical and dental group practices. It is an American software company headquartered in Horsham, Pennsylvania, USA.[1]

This system gives you all the tools in one application to maintain your practice's patient information and streamlines workflow by offering 24 specialty templates which come pre-loaded with detailed options for documenting the patient's histories, procedures and assessments. NextGen EMR gives you all the applications needed to run the daily operations of your facility from scheduling to billing. [3]. Since 2004 NextGen EHR is used by many small-large sized practices and hospitals, community health mainly Government and non-profit sector.
HISTORY
In 1994, Clinitec was formed by Pat Cline and Bryan Rosenberger to sell software for converting paper medical records into electronic medical records. Clinitec was purchased by QSI in 1996. Irvine, CA-based Quality Systems, Inc. (QSI) – specialized in dental software was formed in 1973. In 1997, QSI merged with Micromed, which provided front- and back-office practice management software. In 2001, QSI combined Clinitec and Micromed to create NextGen Healthcare Information Systems. In 2008, NextGen Healthcare then acquired HSI of St. Louis, Missouri, and Practice Management Partners of Hunt Valley, Maryland, to expand its billing services and revenue cycle consulting division.[2]
SOFTWARE DETAILS
The NextGen product is written in Visual Basic and Visual C++ and uses MS SQL database and Active Domain. This implies an open architecture for custom developed extensions, such as integration adaptors and complex reports. The NextGen EMR enables the user to interact with the system through a portable, wireless workstation or a standard Windows based desktop computer. As the data is captured, it is relayed back to the database engine on a UNIX, Windows 2000/NT or Novell server. You can run the application on a locally hosted server; NextGen also has a corporate data center, which can act as a host for your data collection. NextGen has its own integrated word processing for creating/customizing letters and communication materials. The company is currently working on optional interface with Microsoft office.[3] NextGen EMR integrates with NextMD, which is the company’s patient-provider portal that facilitates effective electronic interactions between the patient and the practice.
