1. "Firewall" is a security system consisting of software or hardware that is designed to prevent unauthorized access to or from a private network. Indiana University defines it as “a system designed to prevent unauthorized access to or from a private network. You can implement a firewall in either hardware or software form, or a combination of both. Firewalls prevent unauthorized Internet users from accessing private networks connected to the Internet, especially intranets. All messages entering or leaving the intranet (i.e., the local network to which you are connected) must pass through the firewall, which examines each message and blocks those that do not meet the specified security criteria.” [1].

2. A program with a sequence of rules placed at the entrance of each private network in the Internet. The firewall examines each packet that aims to pass through and decides whether to accept the packet, which grants access, or to discard it. [2]

Definition of Firewall

A firewall protects and keeps our computer safe when installed and then turned on in our devices. Microsoft describes “firewall” as a software program or hardware device that can be installed on our computer that will filter all data passing through our internet connection thereby blocking the data that may be harmful to our computer by following the rules that you set up for protecting your device from hackers and other malicious software trying to get information from your computer.[1]
