Background

Previous training and education for healthcare leaders typically has not included Informatics Competencies. The study developed a list of informatics competencies specifically for healthcare leaders in nursing.

Methods

A review of the literature was conducted as well as a Delphi approach that surveyed three rounds of expert panels.

Results

The study identified informatics competencies including computer skills and informatics knowledge and skills for healthcare leaders in nursing.

Conclusion

The strength of this study is that it identified competencies for healthcare leaders in nursing which ranges from managers, administrators, and executives. Although competencies in computer skills are similar to previously identified ones [2] [3] [4] [5] [6], this study identifies previously unidentified competencies in knowledge and skills. Future competencies need to be in the same relative position as nursing leadership roles and responsibilities.[1]

Comments

This study is interesting because of the competencies it identifies for informatics knowledge and skills for healthcare leaders in nursing.
